Stuff a Doll Party - American Doll Boutique

Birthday Party Instructions

  1. Have the birthday girl sit in front facing the children who are sitting Indian style. Older children may prefer to sit around a table.

  2. Have the Birthday girl pick out her Dolly first and then tell the guests that you need their help to make her Dolly special.

  3. Hold up the recordable soundchip and move the switch on the back to RECORD. The soundchip can record up to 10 seconds simply by pressing the top down while recording.

  4. Ask the children to sing Happy Birthday so that you can record it for the birthday girls Dolly. Press down firmly and constantly to record.

  5. Record the last 2 verses only: "Happy Birthday dear _____, Happy Birthday to You."

  6. Move the Switch to PLAY and press the soundchip once so the children can hear what has been recorded. Ask, "Do you want to do it again even louder?" (yes)

  7. Move the switch back to RECORD and have them sing to the birthday child again. This will erase the first recording and record over it.

  8. Move the Switch to PLAY- let the children hear it and then place inside the birthday child's animal (preferably a hand or foot).

  9. Next have the birthday girl hand out all of the Dolls (Tossing them to each guest is fun).

  10. Next have the birthday girl toss each child a bag of cotton or if you prefer, pile all of the cotton between the children (we call it Marshmallow fluff to make our Dollies sweet).

  11. Using the birthday girl's Dolly as an example, hold up the Doll and show the children the opening on the back. The main point is to be sure that the opening is OPEN so that cotton can be poked in. Use the wooden sticks to poke the cotton in the arms (this may require a little assistance from an adult) You'll seal each Doll up at the end. Make sure to tell them NOT to close the Dolly until we put the magic in at the end.

  12. Begin by stuffing arms and legs. Smaller puffs of cotton work best. Use one or two fingers to poke it down (or wooden stick). If a girl has trouble, instruct them to poke the cotton into the tummy first and then from the tummy into the arms or legs.

  13. Next stuff the head, then behind, bottom.

  14. Next stuff the tummy and then push up to the neck area to make that firm.

  15. Finally put a bit more into the tummy to make up for the amount you just moved to the top. Remind them NOT to zip up the Dolly yet.

  16. Have the children squeeze the Dolly to see if it needs more in the tummy or head and if its ready for magic. Leave unzipped.

  17. Now for the MAGIC part. Explain to the children that only birthday children have magic because of all of those extra wishes they make for all of the presents they have been wishing for. Lucky for them - the birthday child is going to share their magic so they can make a wish too today.

  18. Have the birthday girl close her/his eyes tight until he agrees that she can fill the magic making her head heavy. Once she nods that the magic is there, have her make a wish and blow it onto the silk insert. Then have the children hold up their inserts all at once and make their wishes while she blows her magic on each one (similar to blowing candles out). Next stick the magic insert into your Dolly as fast as you can and close it before the magic gets out.

  19. Now for the naming of each Dolly. Each Dolly comes with a Birth Certificate. Each girl should come up with her name for her Dolly and then each Dolly gets weighed (use a bathroom scale or food scale is even better).

  20. Get inexpensive fleece from your fabric store for "blankets" and send each Dolly home in their own blanket.
